Terms and Conditions

Last updated: October 31, 2026

These terms govern your use of the Unofficial Star Citizen API. By signing in, requesting an API Key, or sending a request to the API, you accept them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

caution

Accounts that break these terms can be blocked without notice.

The API is a free, community-run service with limited resources. We keep full discretion to decide what counts as abuse, so that the Service stays available to everyone.

Definitions

  • "API" — the Unofficial Star Citizen API service available at api.starcitizen-api.com.
  • "API Key" — the 32-character alphanumeric key issued to you upon registration.
  • "Account" — the record linking your Discord or Google identity to your API Key.
  • "User" — any individual or entity that accesses the API.
  • "Service" — the API, this documentation site, and the associated tooling provided by this project.
  • "RSI website" — robertsspaceindustries.com, the source the API reads its data from.

Eligibility and Accounts

  1. One account per person. You may hold a single Account. Creating several Accounts — through different Discord or Google identities or otherwise — to multiply your quota is prohibited.
  2. You are responsible for your key. All requests made with your API Key are attributed to you, including requests made by anyone you shared it with or anyone who obtained it because you exposed it.
  3. Contact email. When you sign in, we store the verified email address shared by Discord or Google. We use it only to contact you about your account, such as warnings, blocks, and appeals. See the Privacy Policy.
  4. Keep your key secret. Use it server-side only. Do not commit it to public repositories, embed it in client-side code, browser extensions, or mobile apps, or post it in public channels. If your key leaks, renew it from your Profile right away.

Acceptable Use

You may use the API to build tools, bots, websites, and applications for the Star Citizen community, provided you follow these terms. Fetch data when you or your users actually need it, and rely on the smart cache wherever possible.

Prohibited Use

The following is prohibited. The list gives examples and is not exhaustive.

Abuse of resources

  1. Quota circumvention. Using multiple Accounts or API Keys, rotating keys, or any other technique to get past the daily quota, rate limits, or authentication.
  2. Unnecessary live scrapes. Systematically sending ?refresh=true (or otherwise forcing live scrapes) when cached data would do, for example on every request or on a short timer.
  3. Bulk harvesting. Enumerating handles, organizations, ships, or other resources to mirror, archive, or rebuild the RSI website's data, or to build a dataset for resale or for training machine-learning models.
  4. Degrading the Service. Sending traffic at a volume or concurrency that degrades the Service for other Users, including load testing, stress testing, and denial-of-service attempts.

Security and integrity

  1. Probing or attacking the Service. Scanning for vulnerabilities, exploiting bugs, accessing endpoints or data you are not authorized to use, or tampering with other Users' Accounts. If you find a vulnerability, report it privately (see Contact).
  2. Reselling access. Selling, renting, sublicensing, or otherwise distributing API access or API Keys to third parties, or exposing the API as a public proxy that lets others use your key.

Harmful use of data

  1. Harassment and tracking. Using API data to harass, stalk, dox, profile, or target players or organizations, or to build tools whose main purpose is surveillance of individuals.
  2. Spam, phishing, and impersonation. Using API data to send unsolicited messages, impersonate players, organizations, Cloud Imperium Games, or Roberts Space Industries, or deceive people.
  3. Unlawful use. Any use that breaks applicable law or the terms of the RSI website.

Illegitimate Use

Beyond the cases listed above, we may treat as illegitimate any use whose traffic pattern, volume, or purpose does not match a normal community application — for example, automated traffic that does not serve real users, unusual request bursts, or behavior that puts the Service or its access to the RSI website at risk.

We decide what counts as illegitimate use at our sole discretion, based on the information available to us, including request logs and usage statistics. You do not need to have broken a specific rule above for us to take action.

Monitoring and Enforcement

We monitor usage of the Service to keep it reliable and to detect abuse. Depending on the severity, we may, at our sole discretion and without prior notice:

  • warn you at the email address linked to your Account, when one is available;
  • lower your daily quota;
  • revoke or renew your API Key;
  • block your Account, temporarily or permanently;
  • refuse new Accounts from you.

While your Account is blocked, every authenticated request returns 403 with the message User is blocked: <reason>. You can still sign in to see the reason on your Profile. Your application must branch on the HTTP status, not the message — see Errors.

If you believe your Account was blocked by mistake, contact us (see Contact) with your provider (Discord or Google) and a short description of your use case. We review appeals in good faith but are not obliged to restore access.

Service Availability

The API is provided free of charge, on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee uptime, response times, or data accuracy. We may change, limit, or discontinue any part of the Service, including quotas and endpoints, at any time without notice.

Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

This is an unofficial fan project, not affiliated with Cloud Imperium Games or Roberts Space Industries. All Star Citizen game content, assets, and trademarks are property of their respective owners.

The Service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, the project and its maintainers are not liable for any damage resulting from your use of the Service, from its unavailability, or from blocking your Account.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms at any time. The date at the top of this page shows the latest revision. Continued use of the API after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
